Magazine Advert Change/Improvement

This is a change in our Magazine Advert, the previous magazine advert did not reflect the similar imagery and the colour's were not similar, we decided to keep the photo's, it might look like a minor change but as far as keeping all the ancillary texts consistent which is our goal this is a huge improvement in my opinion.

Magazine Advert

This is the prototype magazine advert, to go along with our music video project. This is a symbolic imagery to convey what our music video is, and what genre our music video falls under. There are clear connotations present in our magazine advert, the use of red the quite obvious one, represents love, romance and lust. However, the stars signifies hope, renewal and beauty, themes that very prominent throughout our music video, this is also a device used to give more context to our music video, and reflect similar themes and our aim is not to detract from the rest of our media products. In this case I feel as if we have accomplished that aim

Intertextuality 2

"She Ain't You" is a song by American singer Chris brown, It was sent to the radio in the United States in March 2011, as the fourth US single from Chris Brown's fourth studio album, F.A.M.E The song samples Michael Jackson's, "Human Nature." The music video was released shortly after Michael Jackson death, throughout the video Chris Browns pays tributes to Michael and also choreographed a selection of iconic Jackson-inspired moves for the song's dance routine , this automatically makes it recognizable and would hopefully give it a wide audience of all Michael Jackson's loyal fans. The final outcome of Browns tribute was praised by critics. The original dance moves from Michael Jackson...

Digipak

This is the digipak for our music video, the colours used here is to connote love through the use of purple and red. The inspiration for this digipak came from analysing other contemporary RnB digipaks, the connotation is used frequently to highlight emotional feelings expressed throughout the album. The picture of the male protagonist and the love interest, is a reflection of the hit single which is the prime focus of this digipak, and further goes to aid the narrative structure that is placed for this specific song for which we have chosen to use in our media project.

Final Video Diary - Shooting The Narrative Footage

This is our video diary, reflecting on our final day of recording for the music video.

The Process To Creating The Digipak

This is the Digipak we created, to promote our Artist and record label there were several influences that helped us create this product.

We made the Digipak by using a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
Photoshop enabled us to edit and manipulate the design at a pixel level, we used various effects such as the crop tool, black and white filter, duo tone filter as well as the magic want and transform tool.

Step One - We began by using this design template Jerome drew this layout and scanned it in on the computer it is a layout that is similar to Jerome's Sway album that he has at home. We edited the template on Photoshop and marked the panels so we could structure the layout.
Step Two - At this stage we used the Transform tool on rasterized text to manipulate the size and scale of the typography to make it more visually appealing.

Step Three - At this stage we decided to play with the connotations behind the design of the digipak, in order to make it appeal to our target audience, we decided to feature an image of the Artist and a featuring female actor together, which is also a still from the music video; we then made it black and white by gray-scaling the image and we decided to make it red by adding a duo tone of red and black.
The use of red is to connote love and make the representation of the image of the artist appeal the the hip-hop and R&B music genre. The balance between red and black shows the clash in nature of these two artist and resembles their respective fields.

Step Four - For this step,  we choose to use an image of both male actor and female actress hugging under an umbrella I thought the connotations behind this image were significant in terms of the representation of the Artist, this image drew from various external influences such as the classical film Singing in the rain, showing the intertextuality we have used in terms of creating our media product.

Step Five - When creating the front cover was the most challenging panel out of the digipak, the reason for this was because we wanted to keep within the confines of hip-hop and R&B, whilst at the same time trying to be unique. The end result is the image below which I think is very successful in terms of its design style, colour scheme, typographic style and an effective way of promoting our artists. We drew from contemporary digipak's such as Lupe Fiasco's "Out of My Head" which reflects similar imagery.

Mobile Phone Exchange With Jerome

This is a phone exchange between me and my partner in this media project Jerome. We need to be able to keep track of each member of the group to be able to help and give them insight into what should be recorded and what needs to be improved. In this conversation I explain to Jerome, why I could not attend the shooting session, but luckily I was able to provide him with last minute information into what footage needs to be recorded in this case, it was the narrative aspect of our media project. The reason for this is because the overall aim of our music video was to expand on a narrative sense, and I trust Jerome implicitly on what he chooses to record, collaborating with him in this project has allowed us to come into consensus on what belongs in our music video and what does not. Using this phone exchange I was able to still be a part of that shooting session by providing him with ideas on what camera angles he should use to be able to convey the idea of lost love and repressed feelings.
