The Process To Creating The Digipak

This is the Digipak we created, to promote our Artist and record label there were several influences that helped us create this product.

We made the Digipak by using a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
Photoshop enabled us to edit and manipulate the design at a pixel level, we used various effects such as the crop tool, black and white filter, duo tone filter as well as the magic want and transform tool.

Step One - We began by using this design template Jerome drew this layout and scanned it in on the computer it is a layout that is similar to Jerome's Sway album that he has at home. We edited the template on Photoshop and marked the panels so we could structure the layout.
Step Two - At this stage we used the Transform tool on rasterized text to manipulate the size and scale of the typography to make it more visually appealing.

Step Three - At this stage we decided to play with the connotations behind the design of the digipak, in order to make it appeal to our target audience, we decided to feature an image of the Artist and a featuring female actor together, which is also a still from the music video; we then made it black and white by gray-scaling the image and we decided to make it red by adding a duo tone of red and black.
The use of red is to connote love and make the representation of the image of the artist appeal the the hip-hop and R&B music genre. The balance between red and black shows the clash in nature of these two artist and resembles their respective fields.

Step Four - For this step,  we choose to use an image of both male actor and female actress hugging under an umbrella I thought the connotations behind this image were significant in terms of the representation of the Artist, this image drew from various external influences such as the classical film Singing in the rain, showing the intertextuality we have used in terms of creating our media product.

Step Five - When creating the front cover was the most challenging panel out of the digipak, the reason for this was because we wanted to keep within the confines of hip-hop and R&B, whilst at the same time trying to be unique. The end result is the image below which I think is very successful in terms of its design style, colour scheme, typographic style and an effective way of promoting our artists. We drew from contemporary digipak's such as Lupe Fiasco's "Out of My Head" which reflects similar imagery.
