First Day of Shooting the Narrative Footage

This was the first day of shooting the narrative footage for the music video, this was a productive day as we were able to get amazing footage. We experimented with different camera angles to convey the theme of love which is shown through the flashback footage we got, over the shoulder shots, low angle shots, establishing shots and panning shots. The use of natural lighting will prove to be effective as it can have different undertones and convey different connotations.

Video Diary - Shooting the Chorus

This was the second day of filming for our music video, in which we used the drama studio. We are going to use the green screen, to add different background's for the singer that effectively represent the genre. The day was productive as we experimented with different camera angles and different lighting to convey different meanings. We thought about having a strobe light effect, but then the footage that came out of it had this black flash on the camera, I think we would hold off using the strobe lights for now, if we can fix the problem we will definitely think about using it.

This is a music video by Hip Hop artist Lupe Fiasco featuring R&B singer Trey Songz. This video is a huge inspiration for the making of our music video. The way in which the director uses natural lighting to convey key aspects and themes of the song. It has made us understand the key concept of lighting and the way in which it could be used for creating effect.

Music Videos that have inspired us

This Music Video by Eamon "F**k it" was a massive inspiration, through the use of flashback, and the relation between the lyrics and video. The way in which they were able to cleverly distinguish between flashback and reality through the use of colours to convey the memories and stretch the narrative. This video is primarily a narrative structured music video with the performance scenes blending into the narrative.

This is a great examples of story driven music video, this is hopefully what we want to accomplish through our music video, we want to be able to have that perfect blend between performance and narrative.

Ideas For The Opening Of Our Music Video

The opening to a music video is extremely important because it sets the tone for the rest of the video. We've decided to utilize the beat at the beginning to set the opening scene, in which the main character meets the ex-lover and we thought of having a close-up of his face as he is walking along, with his headphones in just walking past and bumps into the ex-lover. As the chorus kicks in we want to have the scene fade into a flashback scene where he is with the ex-lover and having a great time at the park and the fun-fair. While the chorus is on we want to have the featured performer to sing parts of his chorus but not too much, we felt that the narrative aspect of this video should have more relevancy in our video than the performance aspect of it, and whilst researching contemporary music videos we found that the featured performer is not there for all of their parts, they only appear every now and then in the video. That's the direction we want to take with this music video, I feel as if we were to utilize the flashback scenes straight away, the audience will recognize instantly the tone and what the video is trying to reflect. We will use a variety of colours such as blue to reflect the sense of melancholia and red to symbolize love, lust and romance.

First Day of Filming

This is the first day of recording for the music video, this is something we wish to hopefully incorporate into our music video, we have used the school hall to use as a location for our music video, we could hopefully use the black backdrop to symbolize the nature of hip-hop, because its dark and gritty this was the best place to shoot it. This was a productive day as we had the chance to film to chorus and get it done in a space of a couple hours, it definitely took a long time but it paid off, because in the end we got great footage.
