Examples of Music Videos

This is The Black Eyed Peas hit single "Where is the Love?". This is telling a narrative while also promoting a cause PEACE. The narrative is that people are putting question mark stickers everywhere the connotation here is to ask the question "Why?". The message being shown is that there is something wrong with society and people are ignoring the issue. The audience can see how dysfunctional the police have become when they are arresting one of the band members and give him a ticket for running, it shows that everyone is on edge. They also have children and young adults lip syncing the song to show sympathy for those children. The audience is more wide ranged because of the fact that it was relevant to everyone, and this incident(9/11) not only affected the average person but it affected the artists too showing empathy towards them.

This is a single from the recording artist Eminem called "No Love" featuring rapper Lil Wayne. This song is about oppression and how to rise above it, the video opens up with a shot of kid walking to school,  the camera then cuts to Lil Wayne who is not present with the kid, there is just smoke and black background behind him, all the while he is rapping there is a constant cutting to the kid then to Lil Wayne just before he is about to say something powerful. The narrative continues when the kid eventually gets to school he is being bullied by older kids. He then goes home to which he has Eminem's wallpaper and posters in his room, then listens to an Eminem, which coincidentally coincides with his verse and Eminem is at two positions throughout the video he is both at his studio and the black background. This eventually makes the kid get revenge for what they(the bullies) did to him, he confronts them and fights them to which the fight is exaggerated. This appeals to people who understand the subject material, and can empathize with the protagonist(Kid), and fans of Hip-Hop and Eminem alike.

This is a single by the recording artist Lil Wayne entitled "Mirror" featuring Musician Bruno Mars. The narrative that is being told through this song is being described by Lil Wayne reminiscing on significant parts of his life. He opens up with trying to with painting something, the audience knows nothing of what he is painting, this in result hooks the audience into watching the rest of the video to find out what he ends up painting. The editing is really significant in this video because the splashes of paint turns out to be Bruno Mars singing the chorus and he is on the other side of the painting. The music video as a whole portrays Lil Wayne as a creativity person and feeds into his success over the past 5 years. 

Purpose of a Music Video

The purpose of a music video is to promote a single, and their album, it also promotes an artist or band. The other reason why a music video is significant to the artist/band that it helps to create an image and effectively change the image of the artist over the time, the reason for this is to help the artist/band adapt their style due to times changing, and the way in which people view music videos. It also allows the viewers to understand the meaning of a song an example could be Black Eyed Peas hit single "Where is the Love?" the video highlighted the issues that were present with the 9/11 attacks people were on edge and this video was about struggle, insecurity and peace. Music videos can also tell a narrative an example could be Ed Sherran's single "A Team" in which it tells a narrative with no actual appearance by the artist, and no singing from the artist. Lighting is important because it sets the mood for the video, Black and white video will trigger the connotation that the music video expects the audience to evoke sympathy for the actor/artist. This is an effective way to entertain their audience.

 A music video would usually only last for 3-4 minutes due to the song being that length, and most of the time the videos are shot in unusual places such as a desert, in which the artist will most definitely lip-sync through the song, this is because it is physically impossible for the recording artist to be heard through the camera. Sometimes an artist will use real life scenery, such as touring and meeting with people such as under privileged children to help promote their image. When they are touring the artist can use their actual live vocals on the music video like in Rihanna's "Cheers(Drink to that)".

This is an email to the record label behind the song "I want you", which we hopefully want to use to our media project. This is to prevent any copyright material, and that all trademarks belong to them and this is strictly for our project.

Storyboard

This is a storyboard for our music video, this is the our concept for the music video. We decided to analyze what camera angles we would use for the music video to convey different imagery and different connotations. We decided to make it a narrative rather than a performance centric music video by utilizing the camera angles and the green screen effect we are planning to use.

Lip-Synching Practice (Final Attempt)

This is a lip-synching practice for our potential song choice, this is just a song we are experimenting with, when recording this it showed us how crucial it is to get the lip-synching correct in our music video that we are going to do in the future. As you can see from the video, we failed to get the lip-synching correct and we probably going to do need to listen to our song choice constantly to learn the lyrics.

Ideas For Our Music Video

This is a list of the final consideration for the songs to which we are going to use for our Music Video. There are wide arrange of songs, that's why we came together and brainstormed, and got down with the final six choices. We plan to analyze both their lyrics and videos, and the ones we did not choose we hope to incorporate some of their music video elements into our music video.

The Meeting

Me, Jerome and Allin held a group meeting today, in this meeting we discussed what music videos we had seen recently and what we liked about them. We tossed around song choices and discussed it's genre to see what ideas we had that would fit with the genre. We then decided to make our video a narrative rather than performance we need to find an appropriate song to compliment the narrative.
